27 June, caffeine and sugar

Bitter black coffee is my one inalienable vice. Nothing else is very hard to give up. And even coffee goes on the no list every early spring for a month or two, since caffeine and sugar both seem to aggravate the hell out of my hay fever. But, lately, I have to admit: the stuff’s hurting me.

A cup before working out, no problem. A cup or two in the morning, then off to work…I’m tense, sore-bellied, and paranoid until early afternoon. Do I actually need to keep ingesting something that makes me feel lousy out of delicious nostalgia and habit, especially when it’s scary-hard to quit every spring?
